Cancer Focus NI
In his address to the Club Monday 16 November, Richard Spratt, CEO Cancer Focus NI, thanked for the Club’s support over the years and reflected on the unprecedented challenging year for all. He advised Cancer Focus celebrated its 50th anniversary last year and that they try to make a difference through their core programmes:
- providing care and support services for cancer patients and their families (they are the only charity that drives people to their treatments);
- offering a range of cancer prevention programmes to help people lessen their risk of getting cancer;
- funding scientific research into the causes and treatment of the disease,
- campaigning for better health policy to protect our community and its future and, as they rely on the NI public and community to fund 95% of their work and
- continually fundraising.
He stressed that Covid had impacted every aspect of their work with many of their services having to be sadly temporarily suspended and or greatly reduced. He stressed that they are passionate about seeing the incidence of cancer fall and the outcomes for people diagnosed improve and emphasised the importance of anyone with symptoms going to a doctor and that we can’t forget cancer at this time.
