Wanderings of a Wanderer

In a highly amusing and entertaining address to the Club Monday 30 November, Peter Jack Limavady Rotarian, Solicitor, and Ironman Triathlete, gave a whistle-stop, anecdotal account of his endeavours around the world from 2017 to 2019 based on chapters of his book “Wanderings of a Wanderer”. Among his many highlights were his 3 Camino walks from South West France to NE Spain; climbing several mountains in Bulgaria; covering 7 countries (Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia and Kosovo) in 7 days; running in a 24hr challenge in Belfast; and undertaking “thrills and spills” when he kept falling off when paddle boarding and coasteering at heights of 12’ – 20’ and 27’.

He stressed the support he had had from his family on his travels, not least on his last Ironman when his sons ran the last 2 miles with him. It took place in Amsterdam which was also the location of his first race. At his finish he was presented, wearing his Rotary cap, with his medal by the event winner who had finished several hours earlier and told him to “wear the medal with pride”. Concluding, he advised that proceeds from the book were for Project Rombo in Kenya where Elaine Bannon and her colleagues are doing such tremendous work through the 'Light of Maasai Charity' in that arid and neglected part of East Africa.

His extremely interesting account left members in awe and exhausted just listening! Thanking him, President Ken noted that the book was a tremendous read and a credit to him and all he did in Rotary.
