Happy Anniversary from RIBI President

Jim MoulsonThe Club, as it enters its 100th year, has received the following message from 2010/11 RIBI President Jim Moulson.

As you start of your 100th year of membership of Rotary International, it is my pleasure to send warm greetings and congratulations, and to wish the Club a Happy Anniversary.

Since its earliest days, the Rotary Club of Belfast has played its part in helping our organisation to develop across these islands, and Rotary International is now a major force for good, helping those less fortunate and saving lives wherever poverty, war, disease, hunger and suffering exist on the planet.

Ninety nine years ago, your Club embarked on a journey that still continues today a journey that has sometimes been difficult and exhausting, but undoubtedly one that has given its members over the decades enormous pleasure from the friendships that have been formed and satisfaction gained through the knowledge that others have benefited from their efforts.

Were they alive today, I am sure that your founder members, led by William Wallace, your first President, would be proud of everything the Club has achieved.

Sadly, I do not have the vision to see a world where there is no war, where there is no poverty, where there is no disease and where everyone has sufficient to eat. But I know that as long as there are Rotarians who give of their time and talents ourworld will steadily become a better place.

'Service Above Self' is as relevant today as it would have been almost a century ago, and I wish you all every success in'Building Communities and Bridging Continents' during this Rotary year as you approach your Centenary, and for the years to come.

Jim Moulson, President RIBI 2010-11
