Flying High - With Rotary

BigProjectMarch15.1The Rotary Club of Belfast were delighted to welcome to Belfast Saturday 14 March a group of 12 disadvantaged children from west Edinburgh flown to Belfast by the Rotary Club of Corstorphine Edinburgh.

The young people, male and female of mixed ethnic backgrounds, were selected by the Big Project in Edinburgh (who support children and young people in Broomhouse to learn, achieve, have fun and feel good about themselves) as those who would benefit from the project.

BigProjectMarch15.2The Young people were accompanied by Corstorphine Club President Dougie Geddis (shown left), Project organiser David Hull, originally from Newtownards, Rtn Peter Croan District Membership Officer and two Big Project staff Sacha and Lisa and were welcomed to Belfast by President Ronnie, Hon. Secretary Alvin, PP David Boyd and Rtn Eric Rainey.

They had had a very early start, most had been up from 4.30am, and it was quite an adventure - several had never been outside Edinburgh and for all it was their first time on an aeroplane.

BigProjectMarch15.3Reflecting the Rotary Theme We're For Communities the young people spent a totally enjoyable morning of activities with YouthAction NI and its Rainbow Factory learning to communicate, socialise and build friendships with others coupled to self-respect and confidence building.

The visit was funded by "Cash for Kids" and discussions with all parties are considering the possibilities of a reciprocal visit.
