Devastation in Nepal

Following the recent delivery of tents to several hospitals in Kathmandu to provide safe spaces for treatment for people injured by the earthquakes, shelter to almost 1,000 people in remote communities in the mountainous district of Sindhupalchok has been distributed, despite the almost impassable roads and heavy storms. The first devastating earthquake (magnitude 7.8) has been followed Tuesday 12 May with another serious tremor 7.5 centering this time NE of the capital with more dead and injured reported. However, this means that thousands of communities, many of whom were just starting to recover from the first earthquake, are now in need of more help than ever before.
In the video ShelterBox response team member Nicola Hinds (from NI), assessing the need for aid from the first earthquake in the remote villages of Nepal, travelled with other team members north-west from the capital of Kathmandu to get a better understanding of the level of destruction, what type of shelter would be needed and how best to transport it.
They found total destruction in the villages that they came across, bricks and timber have cascaded down the mountainside and people have been living under nothing but plastic sheeting.
