Back to its Former Glory

Thank You to speaker Jon Kerr, General Manager of the National Trust Properties and Estates in The Ards area, who gave a fascinating and interesting talk about the Castlereagh Family, the conservation and renovation work that has been undertaken by the National Trust at Mount Stewart and the purchases that have been made to secure the fabric and furnishings of the House for the future.

A further exciting new chapter in Mount Stewart's history is the recent purchase of 900 acres of land around the estate at a cost of £4m thereby ensuring its unspoilt beauty. 20 miles of walking trails will be opened up, as well as previously unseen walled garden, dairy and farm buildings. Whilst many know of the restoration not many know of the extensive collection being gathered together and on display and it was inspiring to listen to him.
