Club Presidents Brave a Europa Abseil for Cancer Charity

abseil.2abseil.3Congratulations to The Rotary Club of Belfast President Ivan McMinn and Past Presidents Gordon Millington and Ken Morrison who abseiled down the Europa Hotel Saturday 10 September to raise over £1000 for Pancreatic Cancer Research. Glad to be safely back on the ground, they found the really professional set up made them able to settle their nerves and enjoy a unique experience. This is a charity particularly close to President Ivan's heart as his is an exceptional story.

In 2011, aged 49, he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer; only 2 years later following surgery (Whipples Procedure) and Chemotherapy he ran the London Marathon in 2013 and again in 2014, raising £202,000 to date for Cancer Charities and other good causes.

With currently over 9,000 people newly diagnosed a year Pancreatic Cancer Action focus on improving the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer and the quality of life for those affected by it. The late detection of this cancer is the reason that the survival rate has remained at between 2% – 4% for nearly 50 years.
