Ruby Paul Harris Fellowship Bestowed

DSC01870The Rotary Club of Belfast has awarded a Ruby Paul Harris Fellowship to Dr. Gordon Millington in appreciation of his 50 years’ service to the Club and Rotary as well as distinguished service to his profession and the community. It was presented to him by Rotary Foundation Trustees Chair Kalyan Banjeree at a Centenary Foundation lunch held in the Europa Hotel, Wednesday 21 June 2017.

This prestigious award is Rotary's highest honour for individuals who have demonstrated exemplary humanitarian service, with an emphasis on personal efforts and active involvement in helping others.

The citation made by PP David Boyd reflected on his esteemed professional career, his involvement in numerous good causes and 50 years active membership of the Club. He pointed out that "it would be understandable that subsequently and in moving towards his 50th year he might have headed towards the backbenches. Far from it Gordon remains the GO TO man in stepping in when something is requiring to be done in the Club, whether that is taking on responsibility for the Tree of Remembrance, organising the new Club sign at the entrance to the hotel, lending a hand with the International committee becoming Vice Chair, taking a prominent role in organising speakers in recent years and even being one of the three members who abseiled from the top of this hotel for Ivan’s charity."

He concluded "Dr Gordon Millington – for your continued full involvement in and enthusiasm and support for all the Club’s activities and in particular your ready response to any request - which is inevitably “I can do that” - the Club is delighted to mark its thanks by honouring you with a Paul Harris Ruby Pin."

Thanking for the Fellowship PP Gordon reflected that none of it would have been possible without all his good friends in Rotary and other organisations and that he was very honoured indeed.
