Northern Ireland Sports Forum

CiaranKearneySpeakerCiaran Kearney, Executive Manager, Northern Ireland Sports Forum in a well received address to the Club Monday 30 July advised that, based in the House of Sport, the Forum is the umbrella organisation for Governing Bodies of Sport and acts as the Independent Voice of Voluntary Sport in NI. Its membership consists of 70 governing bodies of sport ranging from rugby, football and golf through to fly-fishing, orienteering and yoga. In fact it is its breadth of membership that makes it unique.

Run by a Council of 10 (4 of whom are women) Ciaran noted that their mandate is to work for and to promote the interests of the sport and recreation sector by effective representation of member bodies through 3 strategic facets: Sports Governance and Leadership - providing support for members and promoting the importance of Governance principles; Representation - representing and campaigning on issues affecting the sector and Communication - providing efficient communication to members and promoting sport and recreation in NI to other bodies particularly in the UK.
