The Role of the Woodland Trust

PeterJonesPresentationIn a most interesting presentation Peter Lyons, volunteer speaker for the Woodland Trust, spoke to the Club Monday 06 August about the work of the Trust and their role in campaigning, protecting and planting woods and trees in the UK. He has been a volunteer since 2002 and was awarded the Trust’s Volunteer of the Year in 2014. The Trust is the only charity whose focus is solely looking after trees across the UK. The Northern Ireland branch was formed in 1996 and the Trust has over the years identified woods under threat and fought to save them, by campaigning alongside local communities or by raising funds to buy them and have also acquired land creating new woodlands. He noted that the UK is one of the least wooded countries in Europe and all trees are under threat.
