ShelterBox Indonesia Appeal

Indonesia October 18On Monday 01 October ShelterBox issued a special appeal for support to deploy emergency aid for the people of Sulawesi Island in Indonesia who last Friday suffered a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake followed by a six-metre high tsunami. As of October 02 the disaster has tragically left at 1,200 dead and displaced 42,000 people as thousands of homes have been turned to rubble. Hundreds more are still missing and the local community is struggling with the catastrophic aftermath, including landslides and power outages. They have issued a video-  click here.

As well as immediate support for search and rescue efforts, medical teams and food, tarpaulins and blankets are urgently needed. The Indonesian Government are welcoming offers of international assistance. ShelterBox are working with them, local Rotarians and other humanitarian organisations to see how they can help these families who have lost everything.
