Rotary Club of Belfast

"A credit to our flourishing city"

Jackie and Pres Mark2Thank you guest speaker Jackie Harte, Marketing Manager Grand Opera House for your most interesting and well received address to the Club Monday 21 January which regaled members with a most interesting review of the Grand Opera House including its 123 year history and its many highlights.

Jackie pointed out that the GOH has been voted “the most welcoming theatre in NI” for the 2nd year in a row, puts on 40 shows with 350 performances per annum and although features all genres is the only theatre that can take West End shows. She revealed that 300,000 people attended last year and their average 80% capacity is higher than most UK theatres. The GOH promotes she advised a creative learning programme, reaching out to schools, community groups and youth organisations with participatory programmes, learning projects and large-scale productions. Jackie highlighted some of their upcoming shows: Fly Me to the Moon, I Shall Wear Purple, Annie, Macbeth, Calendar Girls, Give My Head Peace, Wilde Without the Boy, Girl on the Train, Miami Showband and the Magic Flute and also revealed that the theatre will close at the end of the 2019 Panto season next January for extensive restoration and refurbishment opening in time for the 2020 Panto season; during this time they hope to take the theatre “on tour” to venues such as Balmoral and possibly a big top.
