Rotary Club of Belfast

A Life in Music

Speaker And Group 04.02.19Guest speaker Dr Joe McKee in a highly entertaining anecdotal address laced with humour detailed his life in music querying whether it was a “proper job” as, as someone had said to him, he was lucky to be paid to do his hobby! He reflected on how his love for music and fire engines started from 1956 when he attended Glengormley Primary School opposite the fire station; the importance of teachers in stimulating pupils and on the various strands of his career. Post retirement he was Chairman of the NI Fire and Rescue Service and became aware of the vulnerability of older people to fires in their houses and from March 2014 to date he is Organist and Choral Director St Columba’s Parish Church Knock. His address was very well received by members.
