Youth Action NI Update

YouthActionGroup2The Club welcomed Youth Action speakers Clare Conlon and Amy Gillen with Director June Trimble Monday 20 October to update members on their work.

Team leader Clare Conlon (shown 3rd from left) noted that this year represented the 70th Anniversary of their successfully working with young people in NI. She highlighted that in 2013: they improved the life chances of 15,725 young people; invested in 347 local youth, community and arts groups and 353 volunteers to support their work with young people; raised £11.60 for every £1 awarded by Youth Council for NI with 88% of resources were spent on young people and they increased the well being, aspirations and opportunities of 585 young adults. She also noted that during 2014 206 young people had already benefitted directly from the Get Set to Be Hired Pack.

YAAmyGillen YAClareConlonGet Set to Work Placement Manager Amy Gillen (far right) explained the Pack and the TED talk approach and highlighted that they had had sessions in Belfast in April and in East Belfast & Armagh during June. The next day session will take place on 13 November in Belfast. She also noted that they had had employability training sessions attended by Club members - the next of these taking place this Thursday when 7 members will advise on 40 interviews.

They thanked the Club for its continuing involvement and practical support. The presentation was very well received. Thanking them Immediate Past President Ken also thanked members Waiter Rader and Eric Rainey for their involvement.
