Off to a Flying Start!

Charity BBQ 1Opening this year's social programme, around 90 members, partners, friends and family (including grandchildren) spent a most enjoyable afternoon of fun and fellowship, on Sunday 8 September at Ronnie and Elma Porter's Farm. We were particularly delighted that members of the Rotary Clubs of Donaghadee and Belfast East and the Rotaract and Inner Wheel Belfast Clubs joined us.

The weather held and all thoroughly enjoyed the succulent gammon barbecued by 'master-BBQ-chef' Past President Brian Clements, aided by his wife Rosie.

To say nothing of the side salads, his BBQ'd bananas with chocolate and liqueur sauce, meringues, strawberries and ice cream with PP Brian's home-made butterscotch sauce.

As well as all this delicious food, adults and children enjoyed the games marshalled by PP Maurice Brooks and viewing the ShelterBox erected (with some 'help') by Billy McCoubrey and PP Maurice and and strolling along one of the 2 marked walks.

It was extra special that the feasting and friendship were held under the eaves of Ronnie and Elma Porters barn - a magnificent venue, suitably decorated with Laura Garland's hand-made paper chains. President Ken thanks them and all who helped in any way.

Club winners in the ballot with prizes that had been kindly donated, were President Elect Ronnie McLean (1st prize), Ann Williamson, Campbell Morton and Billy McCoubrey; other prize winners were visiting friends and family.

Although not targeted as a fundraiser, it is hoped that the day will raise over £1000 for ShelterBox and the Club Charity Funds.
