District Conference 2012

MutualUnderstandingAwardGroup12President Alan and Fleur were joined by 5 members and partners - ADG Maurice and Hilary Brooks, Past Presidents Adrian and Margaret Kerr, Brian and Rosie Clements, President Elect (PE) Ronnie & Doreen McLean and Rtn Ronnie & Elma Porter - at the District 1160 Annual Conference held in Galway 05-07 October 2012. We were also delighted to have in attendance our new Ambassadorial Scholar Delia, from the Bahamas.

It was an excellent weekend of speakers, Rotary business and Club Awards but most of all, great fellowship. The programme included updates from the District Officers and presentations from Linda Nolan, Breast Cancer; Carol McClure, President Inner Wheel District 16 and member Belfast Inner Wheel Club; James Browne, President National University of Ireland – Galway and Richard Donovan, 1st person in history to run a marathon in both North and South Poles.

We all had a most enjoyable dinner and fellowship evening the first evening in our hotel on the sea, The Galway Bay, and were delighted to be joined by the Dublin, Belfast East and West Clubs. Other events also provided great fellowship and many ladies attended a number of events including colour me beautiful and a river cruise on the Corrib Princess. 8 of the party danced the night away at the District Governor's Ball while the others spent an excellent evening in a lovely Galway restaurant.

At the Conference The Rotary Club of Belfast received 2 District Awards:

Our thanks are extended to PE Ronnie who organised and shepherded the party. The Conference was a most enjoyable experience; newer members should consider participating in future years. They would be made very welcome.
