Rotary Club of Belfast

Membership

Membership of the Club is an incredibly rewarding and enjoyable experience and we are actively looking for new people to invite to join who will bring new vibrancy and ideas into the Club and take Rotary into its second century in Belfast.

Membership is open, by invitation, to anyone, male or female, from any walk of life who believes in the Rotarian motto of Service above Self.

All members are bound by Rotary's guiding principles called the 4 Way Test in what they think, say or do and which serves as a foundation for our relationships with each other and the action we take in the world.

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Getting involved with Rotary could be the most important thing you ever do.

However the Club appreciates that full membership may not be suitable for everyone and offers alternate categories:

Corporate Membership, Prospective Membership and Friend of Rotary.

Corporate Membership

The Club actively invites any corporation, company or institution to consider Corporate Membership.

In this category up to 4 designees would be appointed as representatives of the Corporate Member. The designees will attend Club meetings and serve on projects but the agreed expectation is that they share these responsibilities on behalf of the Corporate member.

Any designee will be eligible to convert to become an individual member of the Club, whether while still employed or on leaving that employment, subject to the process established by the Club.

Being involved with Rotary and getting involved in your community inevitably enhances a company's CSR policy to act responsibly, ethically, legally and with respect for the community and the environment, all of which are Rotary's own guiding principles. Being a member of Rotary helps develop leadership, public speaking, social and vocational skills and businesses who encourage their staff to become involved with Rotary to capitalise on these opportunities often notice a marked improvement in skills such as event management, organisation, time management, teamwork and leadership.

Prospective Membership

If you have an interest in joining the Club and are prepared initially to be an active supporter or helper, rather than an active member with full membership benefits then this might be for you!

You can attend the Club and its activities, experience membership of Rotary and attain an understanding of what you are becoming part of before committing to full membership.

Prospective members are subject to the normal membership approval procedures and following approval by the Council will be introduced to the Club initially as a prospective member. At the end of the set period you decide whether or not to become an active member of the Club and be introduced as a member in the normal way.

Friends of Rotary

Our Club recognises that many people do not have the time or resources to make a full commitment to membership of Rotary but do appreciate the important role in youth, vocational and humanitarian support and assistance that Rotary plays throughout the world. Our Club's Friends Programme is aimed at allowing such people to participate how, when and where they find possible.

Becoming a Friend provides the opportunity to be associated with the on-going success of Rotary's local, national and international projects without any precise time or financial commitment by assisting in agreed Club Service and Charitable Projects, attending nominated meetings and social activities as identified by the Club and just seeing what Rotary is about without commitment or pressure to become a full-time Rotarian.

A Friend of Rotary has a formal association with the Club but is not a member of The Rotary Club of Belfast they may be accepted by the Council following an invitation and nomination by a member of the Club. The initial period of a Friend's association with the Club will be for the current Rotary Year, renewable, as appropriate, by the Council. If at any time a Friend expresses a wish to become a member of the Club, the usual procedures apply as for new members.
