About World Community
Rotary members carry out a range of international programmes and activities designed to reach out to people in need throughout the world.
In many countries, millions die of starvation and from diseases that could be prevented by clean water, proper sanitation or medicines. Children often become adults without having access to even a basic education. Thousands are killed and injured by earthquakes, tsunamis, cyclones and flooding.
In recent years with the encompassing global reach of today's media these tragedies enter into our living rooms and consciousness almost at the moment they happen.
The Rotary Club of Belfast's International support has been substantial. It is absolutely impossible to mention all of the many incredibly worthy causes we have helped, a few have included: Belfast School-New Zealand, Indian eye camps, Books to Africa, Nepal Trust, Leonard Cheshire's School 4ALL, Water aid, Wind up radios, Elimination of Malaria in Tanzania, Bosnian refugees and Hope and Homes for Charity where Rotary members have fundraised and used their skills and links to Clubs in other countries to support.
Currently the Belfast Club has chosen to highlight the following for special support though other projects will be incorporated where the need arises:
- Vision Aid
- ShelterBox
- AquaBox
- Rotary Jaipur Limb Project
- Project Rombo
