ShelterBox in Action - 2024

ShelterBox believe in a world where no one is without shelter after disaster.

Because they believe shelter is so much more than just a roof; that it’s the foundation for life, families and communities ShelterBox’s sole focus is on emergency shelter and this allows them to provide the best shelter solutions for people after disaster and conflict.

ShelterBox are continuing to respond with aid in Ukraine and have helped more than 37,000 people so far not only those displaced within Ukraine but also refugees who crossed the border into Moldova. They are currently concentrating on supporting people through the bitter winter months reaching around 30,000 more people with essential items - thermal blankets, clothing, and emergency repair kits (which will help people fix damaged roofs, seal windows and doors, keep the heat in and make homes watertight) to help them survive.

ShelterBox Gaza 0224 01Gaza
With the current conflict in Gaza nearly 2m people have been displaced. That’s 85% of the population with no choice but to shelter in community buildings like schools, makeshift shelters, or out in the open. There is severe overcrowding and disease is spreading. It’s cold and wet and people don’t have what they need to protect themselves or their families from the harsh winter weather. Access to water, food and medicine is very difficult, made worse by fuel shortages and without electricity, people cannot use lights in the dark evenings, keep warm, or cook food.

A ShelterBox team arrived in Egypt end February, where they are meeting with partners and Rotary to plan the distribution of aid into Gaza. They are supplying vital items for people with no homes, few belongings left and no shelter - mattresses, blankets, pillows, and floor mats to help people stay warm in chilling temperatures; washing sets, water carriers, kitchen sets, items like nappies, toothbrushes and sanitary items will also be provided, alongside tarpaulins and rope. The situation is complex, but it is expected aid to arrive in Rafah in the next few weeks.
