Crocuses Planted!

IMG 1580The Rotary Club of Belfast continuing its support of Rotary’s End Polio Now Campaign have planted 4,000 purple crocus corms in the grounds of Mitchell House School; pupils Cameron and Rebecca were willing helpers despite the cold weather. School Principal, Miriam Donnan is delighted with the planting and pupils and staff are looking forward to seeing them in bloom in the spring.

IMG 1575IMG 1576They crocuses are purple because the colour purple has become a symbolic colour in the fight against polio, inspired by the colour of the dye painted on the little finger of a child to signify they have received a potentially life-saving polio vaccine.

Rotary’s End Polio Now Campaign is committed to working to eliminate this potentially deadly virus and make Rotary's dream of a polio free world a reality.

The Club are indebted to Donaghadee Golf Club's staff for the hire of the turf removal machine and help with the planting.
