Aspiring Chefs
The Club is delighted to be participating in Generation Chef - the Rotary led competition for aspiring young chefs in NI which offers a platform for young talent to shine and promotes excellence in the culinary arts. The competition provides valuable opportunities for students in 6 culinary colleges to showcase their skills and talent. The competition is being run by the Rotary Clubs of Ballymena, Belfast, Comber, Enniskillen, Lisburn, Londonderry and Newry with the Belfast Met, Northern, Northwestern, Southeastern, Southern and Southwestern Reginal Colleges. Over 12 weeks, aspiring student chefs in each college are enhancing their cooking and service expertise to deliver a premium culinary experience.
The Belfast Met teams first practice event was held on Thursday 27 February and President Elect Heather Shiell, Past President Brian Clements and Trevor Stewart (RC Lisburn) enjoyed a full 3 course meal with scallops, a large pork chop and a large cake! A team of 3 will be chosen from each college to go through to the final on 01 May. These 18 students will be tested not only on their cooking and hospitality skills but also their ability to work together as a team in a professional environment. The Generation Chef competition will culminate with the selection of a winning team of 3 chefs.
