Rotary Club of Belfast

YouthAction NI Thanks

GroupPhotoPresident Mark warmly welcomed speakers from YouthAction NI - Hon. Member June Trimble, Chief Executive, Clare Conlan, Team Leader - Training (far left), and Club Sponsored Intern Seynab.

Addressing the meeting Hon Member June Trimble noted that they are celebrating its 75th year and thanked the Club for working with them over the last 6 years with the Get Set programme; support, promoting of their work and attending events, as well as supporting 4 interns through their internship programme. She declared that she was very proud to launch the First Jobs for young people Report and highlighted that over the last 4 years 30 unemployed young people have commenced the paid placement scheme all of whom have progressed into further work, university or training. At any one time 4 students earn a living wage doing all sorts of jobs with a work-placed mentor, this enables them to plan for interviews and find jobs.

Clare Conlan advised that the Get Set for Work Programme is now in its 2nd phase and will over the 4 years (2018 - 2022) build the skills of 900 young people for life, learning and work. She revealed that the programme has 3 strands: give confidence, give skills and give qualifications and in year 1, with 250 young people involved, that they had already exceeded their target. This year's Club Sponsored Intern Seynab, advised that she is from Somalia and is very glad to have the help to gain experience.
