Rotary Club of Belfast

Welcomed in Dublin

Dublin 06The Club was delighted to attend the Rotary Club of Dublin meeting in the Grand Hotel on Monday 08 April both in person and by zoom. Led by President Steven, 12 members and partners travelled and received warm welcomes and fellowship.

The travellers by train from Belfast were met at Connolly Station by some Dublin Club members and escorted to Trinity College via a LUAS and a bus! A welcome coffee was offered in the Buttery where the group met up Dublin Club President Delma Sweeney and the others who had travelled by car before joining our most informative tour guide for the Book of Kells Exhibition and new audio-visual Experience. A quick DART journey was undertaken before meeting for the Club Lunch at the Grand Canal Hotel.

Dublin 07After a delicious 2 course lunch President Delma welcomed all in the room and on zoom to Dublin and President Steven noting the Club was delighted to attend hoped the joint relationship, which had started with a visit of 50 Club members to Dublin led by President Albert Baird, with travelling north and south re-kindled by PP Brian Clements in 2010 and followed by 6 more in the last 14 years, would continue.

Dublin 09aGuest speaker PP Bryan Johnston spoke about the remarkable influence of Ulstermen in US History which was very well received and garnered several questions. The sadly inclement weather didn't dampen the enjoyment of the day which culminated in a sojourn in Slattery's Pub.

The precise organisation of the whole day by President Delma and Eamonn Allen managed to get all returning by train back to Connolly in time for the 16.50 train!
