President Steven was delighted to welcome 36 members and guests to President's Day held at the Royal Belfast Golf Club, Monday 24 June. Always an exceptional event in the Club calendar, this year's was no exception with the relaxed and sociable evening being greatly enjoyed by those attending.
This year the weather was kind but sadly with a chilly wind pre-drinks were enjoyed in the bar rather than on the terrace.
President Steven thanked PE Ken for all his support during his 2 years as well as Hon Treasurer Tim, Hon. Secretary David and Jenny Boyd. He noted that it had been a busy but very happy year albeit tinged with sadness with the loss of Billy and Eileen and thoughts were with their families. He asked members to support PE Ken as he takes on the Presidency again and noting that it had been a pleasure thanked all members for their help and support.
Hon. Treasurer Tim noted that they had had a very convivial round of golf which concluded in a 2-horse race with PP David finishing with 2 birdies to claim the win. He revealed that he must have had a 6th sense as he hadn't got the Cup engraved from last year's win and pointed out that PP David had been the 1st recipient of the Trophy named after Rtn. Willie McNabb in 1985! Having been presented with the Cup by President Steven PP David highlighted it had been a beautiful afternoon for golf played in temperatures like Portugal but with a cooling wind! He thanked his playing partners Hon Treasurer Tim and PP Derek for an enjoyable game and urged other members to play in future.
He thanked President Steven for all he had done during the last 2 years, noting he had stepped forward and carried the role (despite the added burden of District appointing him as an AG) with his usual enthusiasm and was an inspiration to us all. He wished him well in his new job.
After a delicious dinner preceded by a most appropriate grace from Eric Rainey President Steven advised that the Club had recently been toasted by the Rotary Club of Cambridge, New Zealand and asked members to raise a toast to that Club. He also thanked Jenny Boyd for all that she has done and presented her with a bouquet.
