Rotary Club of Belfast

Christmas Dinner 2017

01The Club enjoyed another evening at the Club Christmas Dinner Meeting held for the first time at Malone Golf Club. 73 Club members and guests had a splendid evening of food, entertainment and fellowship.

02A warming glass of mulled wine greeted all on arrival and the formal proceedings commenced with President Rosemary asking for a moment of reflection for good friends Una Donaldson and Sir Billy Hastings who had sadly recently passed away. President Rosemary then welcomed all members and guests and, in particular, District Governor Garth and Ann Arnold; ADG Roland & Louise Bailie, President James & Mrs O’Fee (Bangor Club), President David & Dianne Gibson (Belfast East Club), President Desmond & Jayne McFall (Belfast West Club) and Inner Wheel President Carol McClure.

0807Grace having been said, all enjoyed a delicious 3 course hot buffet dinner which was followed by a presentation of Paul Harris Fellowships for long service.

DG Garth presented Bob Skelly and San Wong with their Fellowships the citations having being made respectively by PPs Gordon Millington and Brian Byers.

10The evening continued with special prizes for those who were sitting on a marked seat, a pass the parcel with a difference – each unwrapped layer revealing a ‘task’ and a ballot with many prizes drawn by Ann Arnold which raised £414 for Rotary Charities.

09Michael Samuel, a locally based most accomplished singer who, trained from the age of 7, has a wide musical experience and repertoire treated everyone in 2 sessions with beautifully performed favourite songs and this excellent evening of fellowship concluded with him leading all in carols and Christmas songs.

President Rosemary thanked all for coming and supporting the evening, Doris Houston for organising it so well and wished everybody a Merry Christmas.
